Jenni Österlund — Fender of Ornament

YLÄKERTA | 28.6.–15.7.2025

Fender of Ornament is an exhibition featuring textile pieces and installations by Jenni Österlund. The work challenges the dominance of function and minimalism by embracing ornament as a feminist act of resistance. The act of existing without purpose becomes rebellious — or perhaps the purpose itself was erased by the oppression of the feminine. Featuring a three-meter quilted textile centerpiece, 300 small ornaments and interactive pieces, the works celebrate functionlessness as freedom and softness as rebellion.

Jenni Österlund is an artist and cultural producer with a bachelor’s degree in art from Novia University of Applied Sciences. In her work she explores questions of coexistence, hierarchies surrounding materials and gender.
